I don't like being tied to my phone. Don't get me wrong, it's handy. I love that I can have conversations with people whenever I need to, no matter where I am. I love that I can send and receive messages from Hubby, or Bratling during my work-day when I'm not available and I miss them so much. It's just that so many people take a cell phone as a sign that I am at their beck and call, whenever they get the urge to contact me.
"Why didn't you reply? Didn't you have your phone?"
I didn't answer your call because I was doing something at the time that required my attention. Or... Maybe I just didn't feel like talking to anyone. I didn't reply to your text because, while it was sweet of you to say good morning, it didn't really seem like a life or death situation.
I hate spending all my free time texting, so I prioritize. If you are not my Husband and/or not having a crisis, I'll get to you when it's convenient for me. I may not answer right away. I may not answer at all. If it's urgent, say so. If it's a question, I'll try to answer it. I might forget, and a gentle reminder is always welcome. Just... Give me a few hours before you assume I forgot. If your message is 'Have a great day,' and I'm not in a position to respond right away, I'm almost certainly going to forget.
If you have my number, let me say this ahead of time: I'm sorry. I forgot about your message. I still love you. Thank you for thinking of me. Please don't send me that forward that you thought was hilarious.
Please remember that, like God in that country song, just because I may not answer doesn't mean I don't care.
